What is Art. 50 of the EU AI Act?

Article 50 of the EU AI Act establishes transparency obligations for AI systems. It requires disclosure when people interact with AI, labeling of AI-generated content, notification of emotion recognition use, and marking of deep fakes.

When is the Art. 50 deadline?

The Art. 50 transparency obligations deadline is August 2, 2026. Unlike high-risk AI requirements, this deadline is NOT affected by the Digital Omnibus delay.

What are the penalties for non-compliance with Art. 50?

Non-compliance with Art. 50 transparency obligations can result in fines up to EUR 15,000,000 or 3% of global annual turnover, whichever is higher. For SMEs and start-ups the lower of the two applies, and fines are proportionate to the company’s economic viability.
